Model Expository Essay Writing by Faith on the Bolt Catcher Experiment

May 3, A message about testing:

Good morning all,

The state testing service is down today and there will be no Smarter Balanced testing. We will follow a normal school schedule for today.

Thank you

Calendar:

SBA Language Arts performance task on  Monday
SBA Language Arts, Second Test, scheduled for Thursday
Pacific Science Center Field Trip, 9:30 AM - 3:20, Friday
Students bring a sack lunch

Field Trip reminders:  Unless you completed a form for a scholarship, families are requested to pay $15 for the field trip. Families may pay online or by cash, check, or credit card in the office.

At present, we have 3 chaperones, Mrs. Tiffany, Mr. Donald, and Mr. Remer.  We would be grateful for a fourth volunteer.

Mathematics:

We are working in Module 5, Lessons 4 and 6:  Finding the volume of stacked  rectangular prisms,  made up of different, and sometimes repeated shapes. Students must reason to find the dimensions of the shapes before the volume in cubic units can be calculated

Except for Domfo, Kamal, and Ragavan, who are a little farther ahead, all students have been set to Mission 5, Lesson1 in Zearn.

On Wednesday we did Exit Tickets (progress quizzes) lessons 1,2,3, 4, & 6.

In Language Arts,

In reading:

Students are reading their own novels as an activity when other students continue testing.  Our home reading article, to be completed Wednesday is "John Muir." In Making Meaning we will work through Determining Importance.  As a class we continue reading Weedflower.

In writing:

We will be working in workshop groups focusing on Explanatory essays.

In language mechanics and word knowledge building we are studying adverbs; comparatives and superlatives.
