Some Learning Highlights:

Mathematics

This week in math we have been working on Eureka Units 9-12.  In particular students have been learning how to multiply fractions and compare this process to the addition of fractions.

Then they applied the new multiplication techniques in Unit Conversion questions using fractions.

They studied the American Standard Measurement System of Liquid (Volume) measurement.

They worked on math application problems involving both multiplcation and addition of fractions.

The learned (or releared) the Order of Operations and began to apply this to expressions with parenthesis and exponents; they continue on this next week to compare expressions with fractions.

They will take the Module 4 Mid-module test next week and have been assigned to work on Zearn at home and should be in the third-fourth topic now (about lesson 10-11).

Science

In Science students should now have turned in their Science Experiment title/ focus and should be beginning their experiments.

We are currently studying Life Science - Ecosystems- in class and students will have a knowledge-based test on Chapters 1-2 next week.  At this point students have approximate 8 pages of notes/ answers from the study of this material.

Read Aloud

I am currently reading Weedflower by Cynthia Kadohata.  Ask your child about the story, Sumiko, and the Japanese here on the west coast just at the start of WWII.
