Academic Calendar and Connections for the Week of March 20

Happy Spring!

Please see the separate blog post this week about the science fair.

Pacific Science Center Field Trip:  Due to a scheduling conflict, the field trip date was adjusted from April 6 to May 4, all other things being the same. Field trip permission slips were sent home March 21.  We need four parent volunteers from my class.

Mathematics this week:  Students are learning how to divide by fractions.  This extends their learning from multiplying fractions in the first half of Module 4. Students will learn a fast calculation method and how to draw models using a tape diagram and a number line. They are also practicing rounding decimal numbers written to the thousandths for review.  Advanced students have been given probability and statistics packet 6.  All students have been placed into Mission 1 on Eureka for review practice on place value, unless the student previously completed all the lessons in that unit.  In class, students have currently been placed in  lesson 25 to begin their studies of fractional division.

Science:  We have begun both the Boeing Bolt Catcher Unit and studying the Physical Science textbook.

Language Arts:  We are halfway through the read aloud, "Weedflowers."
We have begun the Non-fiction Science Literature Circle Unit.  The unit's introduction was Tuesday when student previewed the available texts. Groups were assigned on Tuesday based on student level, student book interest, and productive working relationships; and  students began their first reading Wednesday.

Students were also given a language arts grammar and vocabulary building packet.  This is due on Friday.  They will have a quiz on the materials in the packet on Friday.
